| Celebrating your first anniversary -- some thoughts Although it
may hardly seem a day since you tied the knot, the first wedding
anniversary can seem to arrive with incredible speed. Although not
considered by some as being as major an event as some of the subsequent
`milestone` anniversaries there`s no reason to wait decades before
having a decent celebration. The first anniversary also sets a precedent,
with subsequent celebrations perhaps being compared with it as something
of a benchmark. It doesn`t matter whether your first anniversary
is celebrated by means of a huge party, a small gathering for a
few family members and friends, a weekend (or longer!) away at a
luxurious hotel or simply by marking the occasion with a few well-thought
out gifts. Since a relatively small percentage of marriages are
blessed with children in the first year, there is arguably more
flexibility in the choice of celebration than in subsequent years.
Some couples will choose to revisit their honeymoon location. Doing
so early on has the advantage that many of the friendly staff you
encountered on your honeymoon are likely to be still in service
at the hotel or resort, adding to the sense of recreating the honeymoon.
The disadvantage of course is that unless you have an enormous budget,
family and friends won`t be able to join you so you may need to
have a separate celebration back at home. If you decide that a party
is in order, it may be that it needs to be at the weekend to ensure
everyone can attend. If your actual anniversary falls on a weekday,
